Carlos A. Moreno is a candidate for Salt Lake County Council in District 2 where he seeks to represent the communities of Copperton, Herriman, Kearns, Magna, South Jordan, West Jordan and West Valley City. He is the official candidate of the Republican Party and is endorsed by the Independent American Party.
Carlos is a proud American, and as a member of the Salt Lake County Council, he will fight for the West Side. Originally an immigrant and political asylee from Venezuela, he earned U.S. citizenship in October 2022. Overnight, he and his wife found themselves homeless without a country. In America, they discovered miracles like “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
These are a few of my priorities for the Salt Lake County Council.
As a candidate for Salt Lake County Council in District 2, the importance of the West Side holds a special place in my heart, reflecting not only my love for this vibrant community but also my years of dedicated service. The west side embodies a rich tapestry of diverse cultures, resilient individuals, and a strong sense of community spirit that I have had the honor of contributing to and being a part of for many years.
As a candidate for Salt Lake County Council in District 2, I am committed to promoting fiscal discipline and efficient government. I believe in identifying and eliminating wasteful spending to ensure that taxpayer dollars are utilized efficiently and effectively. My approach involves conducting thorough reviews of the county budget to pinpoint areas where resources can be allocated more judiciously.
As a candidate for Salt Lake County Council on the West Side, I am committed to bolstering civic education and engagement to strengthen the foundation of our democracy. To achieve this, I propose a comprehensive plan:
Town Hall Meetings and Community Forums:
Conducting regular town hall meetings and community forums will create a space for open dialogue, ensuring that the concerns and perspectives of residents are heard and addressed.
Educational Programs on Local Government:
Implementing educational programs focused on local government structures and processes will empower constituents with the knowledge necessary for active participation in decision-making processes.
Partnerships with Schools and Community Organizations:
Foster partnerships with local schools and community organizations to integrate civic education into curricula and outreach efforts. This approach aims to cultivate a culture of civic responsibility from a young age.
Utilization of Technology for Accessibility:
Harnessing technology, such as online surveys and social media platforms, will enhance accessibility and engagement. This approach allows constituents to conveniently voice their opinions and stay informed about local governance.
Volunteer Initiatives and Community Service Projects:
Finally, establishing volunteer initiatives and community service projects will encourage residents to actively contribute to the improvement of their neighborhoods. This fosters a sense of shared responsibility and pride in local governance. Through these initiatives, constituents can become more informed, empowered, and actively involved in shaping the future of Salt Lake County.
Hello, Salt Lake County residents! As your candidate for Salt Lake County Council District 2, I am committed to fostering a sense of civic responsibility and engagement among our youth. Here are five initiatives I propose to empower and involve the younger generation in shaping the future of our community:
Youth Civic Education Series:
Let’s kickstart a comprehensive series of workshops and seminars aimed at educating our youth on the importance of local government, its functions, and how they can actively participate. These sessions will cover topics like local policies, community development, and the impact of civic engagement on their everyday lives.
Youth Advisory Council:
I believe in the power of young voices. Establishing a Youth Advisory Council will provide a platform for students to express their concerns, ideas, and perspectives directly to the County Council. This initiative will ensure that the youth’s opinions are not only heard but also incorporated into the decision-making process.
Community Youth Forums:
Let’s organize regular town hall-style forums specifically for young residents. These events will facilitate open dialogues between local leaders, including myself, and the youth. By addressing their questions and concerns directly, we can create a more transparent and inclusive decision-making process.
Civic Engagement Competitions:
Inject some friendly competition into civic engagement! I propose organizing contests or projects that encourage youth involvement in community initiatives. Whether it’s a neighborhood beautification project, a civic awareness campaign, or a community service challenge, these competitions will instill a sense of pride and responsibility in our young residents.
Internship Programs in County Government:
To truly understand the inner workings of local government, I aim to create internship programs within Salt Lake County offices. This hands-on experience will not only provide valuable insights into the governmental process but also encourage young individuals to consider future careers in public service.
Together, with these initiatives, we can build a more engaged, informed, and empowered youth population in Salt Lake County. Let’s work towards a future where everyone, regardless of age, plays an active role in shaping our community for the better.
